Our first PBL unit was all about Community Helpers and how they are important to everyone. The class learned about community helpers by participating daily in different stations where they could dress in community helper clothes, use flannel board pieces to explore different jobs, match jobs to their tools, read many books about specific jobs and write about jobs in small groups.. We enjoyed Community Helper Day where students dressed like community helpers, and then we had visits from a dentist, firefighter, hairdresser and police officer! In the afternoon, students shared facts about their job with the class. It was a great way to practice speaking skills.
Our field trip to the farm was fun! The day started out chilly, but the sun warmed us up and we had a great fall day!

Our STEM activities have encouraged lots of thinking and discussions. Our first activity was all about force and friction for our science motion unit. Building a gate for the 5 little pumpkins was our second activity. This activity encouraged working as a team!
