Dear Kindergarten Family,
Welcome to a new and exciting year at Creek View Elementary School! We realize the tremendous responsibility of being your child’s teacher and promise to do our best to ensure that your child has every opportunity to realize his fullest potential. We want kindergarten to be the first of many years of positive and happy school experiences. Please read the info that may answer any questions you might have at this time.
Attendance: Students may enter building at 7:10 a.m.
School begins at 7:40 a.m. Dismissal begins at 2:20 p.m.
Absences: When your child is absent from school, you must email the teacher the reason for being absent, or you may write a note and send in home folder. The teacher will give your excuse email/note to the Data Clerk at front office. If the Data Clerk does not receive info from parent regarding absence, it will be unexcused. Students who are absent 5 consecutive days for a trip/vacation will automatically be withdrawn from school. Parents will need to enroll student again upon returning and student will not return to same classroom teacher.
Book bags: Bring daily…..keep inside: change of clothes and Home Folder.
Birthdays: School policy prevents in-class celebrations. Parents may purchase cafeteria class treats which will be distributed at lunch. You may send in $20.00 cash or check (make out to CVES) for a class set of frozen treats. The teacher will give the money to the cafeteria manager. Please include WHAT DAY you want the treats to be distributed to the class by the cafeteria manager. Treats will need to be purchased at least a week in advance. NOTE: Birthday invitations or goodie bags may not be given out in class or in cafeteria.
Checking Out: If you will be checking out your child during the day, please send a written note or email to the teacher. The office will call the teacher’s classroom when you arrive to check out your child. Per the front office: no check-outs allowed after 2pm.
Communication with the Teacher: The best and quickest way to contact your child’s teacher is via email or by a written note placed in the Home Folder. Clothing: At all times, extra clothing must be kept in your child’s classroom in case of a bathroom accident. We definitely have occasional accidents in kindergarten.
Creek View’s Dress Code can be found in the Family and Student Handbook. Halter tops, spaghetti straps, short-shorts are not permitted. Sneakers are recommended since we go outside to the playground daily. No Flip Flops or Crocs allowed at school.
Curriculum: Our curriculum will be based on the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. Children will be introduced to concepts in language arts, math, social studies, health, science, art, music and PE. Teachers also use the state GKIDS program which evaluates K students’ performances on the standards. Please attend Kindergarten Curriculum Night to learn about kindergarten academic expectations. It is a parents’ only meeting.
Daily Snack: fruits, veggies, crackers, granola bars, cheese sticks are all great choices. No cookies, cakes or candy. Save these snacks for home. *Please do not send juice boxes. We prefer students use their water bottles during snack. Please send a water bottle that your child can easily open and hold while drinking the water. *Adult water bottles are usually too big and heavy for K students.*
Homework Policy: Students are to read with (or be read to) their families for 10 minutes daily. In addition, a monthly activity homework calendar with optional activities will be sent in the Home Folder beginning in September.
Home Folders: Each day your child will bring home a folder which might contain correspondence from school. Please return the Home Folder each morning since his teacher will check it for any notes from you. Graded work will be sent twice a month on Fridays in our special Friday Folder. Always sign the signature sheet stapled to the graded work and RETURN THE WORK PACKET.
Lunch: Kindergarten lunch time is important since it is the beginning of learning to socialize with others. If you send lunch from home, please remember to pack food that your child will actually eat, and have eating utensils packed if they are needed for the food. Teachers encourage students to eat their food, however, teachers are not allowed to force students to eat. Teachers will eat with the class in the cafeteria for the first week of school. After the first week of school, there will be other teachers who monitor students during lunch.
Lunch Money: Students may buy their lunch at school. Cafeteria lunches are $2.45 per day which includes milk. Breakfast is $1.10 and must be finished by 7:25 am. You may pay daily, weekly, monthly or sign up online with Fulton County’s Meal Pay Plus program. You will find info on prepayment and daily menus by visiting www.fultonschools.org/dept/schoolnutrition or type in My Payments Plus. It is a convenient way to online purchase your child’s lunches. If you send lunch money or checks (made payable to Creek View) to school, please put it in an envelope with your child’s name clearly written on the front and place in his Home Folder.
Physical Education (gym): Students will have gym twice a week and should wear sneakers on gym days. Your teacher will let you know which days the class will have gym.
Transportation: If your child’s afternoon mode of transportation changes, EVEN FOR A DAY, please notify us in WRITING. We cannot accept transportation changes via voice mail, email or verbal message from a child or parent. If we do not receive a note, we will send your child home the usual way. You must call the front office if your change occurs during the school day for your child’s afterschool dismissal. The office will notify the classroom teacher. Office number: 470 254 2932
Toys: Not allowed….please keep at home. Do not pack in book bag.
Volunteers: Classroom volunteers must complete the online volunteer parent training and allow at least 2 weeks for processing. Please visit www.fultonschools.org to access the training portal. This training must be renewed each school year. Parents must have training to go on field trips and volunteer in classroom, media center or other school events.
